Big trip to the soapstone wholesaler, Gian Carlo Chitto Stoneworks, last month, and got 500 pounds with some extraordinary colours. This is the pile! (scribbled #’s are the weights in pounds)
The top piece became 3 Great Horned owl sculptures;

Great Horned Owl
This big orange piece;
Became a series of cats, a bear and a coyote (started out as a red fox but was tooo skinny!)
Then there was some amazing turquoise blue Indian soapstone;
Oh, and the otters did get finished at last!

The otters almost there!
Good weather to be inside working!

Found the third otter! Back to work on this finally – after being distracted by bears, other otters, and the whole Holiday thing. (Doesn’t everyone decide 2 weeks before Christmas to make home-made gifts for everyone? In a media they’ve never tried before?)

My inspector hard at work! The otter seems a bit worried, but I think they passed!.
This little bear is now finished and ready to go

Into doing otters lately – this pair is about 10″ high. Been trying to squeeze a third otter out of the lower bulge, but don’t think there is quite enough stone there. Stone has a way of re-shaping your ideas! The colour will be a warm, russet tone after waxing.
